LOL

I ran KK into QQ and JJ last week - QJX flop

Then the bastards gave me the NFD on the turn, which subsequently missed on fifth, just to twist that knife a little more :(

How does your holding Aces in any way effect the probability of someone else holding Ks or Qs?
Or have I misunderstood when you said "given that you have aces"?
if you asked "if i have aces, how likely is it that there are 2 other people that have QQ and KK"

you are right, it was just one of those things that people like to ask.

i was phrasing it in a way that it is similar to "what are the chances that i run into aces when i have kings?"

the fact that you have aces doesn't really matter

Got ya.
As you probably aware from probability study you've done, whenever I read "Given A what is the probability of B" I automatically think conditional probability...

@Scott: How Hard were you screaming "Spade spade spade!" after that turn? (or K or T, just spade more likely)

if you know your two cards, the probabilities change slightly due to card removal (pedantic wins, weeeeee!!!!)

Yeah indeed he did. I believe it was queens that set him back on track. QQ v AA hitting Q on flop and the quads on river from memory.

Well done old man Swanky......probably time to come clean on what actually happened in this this hand.......

Why does it matter if you know your cards? They have been removed from the deck whether you know what they are or not?
I did think of that, but as there are no Ks in your hand I didnt think that changed the probability of some one else having KK.
OK it is now 4/50 * 3/49, not from 52/51 cards?
I guess i was just looking at it from an overall, 'What is the prob of someone having KK'.
SO what if you hadnt looked at your cards yet? that should still be 4/52 * 3/51 yes?
Damn thats a bit like Schrodinger's Cat hey?

Also, that kind of implies that the later your position, as more cards have been removed,
the probability of hands changes? That doesnt sound right...

And this was never about winning, just learning... ;)

yep :P

but meh, thats off topic here. my whole "given that we have aces" calculation wasn't really needed
