I've been playing poker on and off fairly casually for a few years now but now I'm in the process of trying to teach myself a better way of playing poker. I'm prepared to try anything to become a better playerr. So i'm interested to know about Pokertracker.

Does anyone here use Pokertracker? Is it easy to use? Worth it?

Thanks.

I have used PT in the past (stopped using it as theversion i downloaded had some bugs and didnt give me the correct info all of the time) but it has been helpful, and i think becomes more helpful the more you play. It takes a while to learn how to navigate your way around the different parts of PT as there is so much information that it becomes hard to decifer and analyse.

A search function of these forums may find some of the other conversations that we have had surrounding PT and its use (what stats to look for etc).

Personally i have heard much better things about the latest version of HEM (holdem manager) which does the same thing as PT, but is easier to use (or so i have heard), so im looking as purchasing that in the coming months.

But when used properly, these programs are excellent for keeping track of your winnings (or losses), finiding leaks in your game (from certain positions or playing with/against certain types of hands etc), so for any player that is looking to play even semi-seriously, the i would recommend it highly. Can be a little pricey for a micro stakes player, but would certainly pay for iself in the long run.

Oh, and welcome to the forums.

Hands down HEM.

$80 US for the pro version and there might be some work to be down installing and setting it up but it is well worth it.

HEM is especially great if you play Omaha as well, although that side of things is still a bit buggy right now.

Forget PT go HEM. I think I have converted most to HEM here anyway.

Where do you play?

No I haven't. You get what you pay for.

Depends how serious you about your game.

Hey Garth,

I play a bit online at micro levels for now, I also play the 888PL in Portland whenever I'm not working. It seems the only place I clean up is at home with friends!

I was also down in Melbourne a few weeks back for the state semi finals, i think it was? I lasted 4-5 hours but i wasn't used to it and couldn't keep up. Ended up going out around 30-40th out of the 90odd there.

Pretty sure you came and dealt 1 or 2 hands on our table at one stage.

Thanks for the HEM advice - I'll make some enquries.

I use HEM.

I have used PT before and I honestly have the biggest man crush on HEM.

I have only been using it for two weeks and still haven't fully explored everything that is involved.
The functionality is fantastic and the reporting and articles and support HEM offer is second to none.

There is a micro stakes version which is cheaper. I only got the Pro version because hopefully I start making enough money in my challenge that I end up working my way through to 400NL.

Also if we all use HEM we can start selling our hand histories and databases to each other to really get an advantage on opponents.

i use HEM, and i can't recommend it highly enough.

for the micro stakes player, you can pay USD50, which means you can play up to 25c/50c and up to $26 tourneys, and it will track it. in the future, if you wanna play higher than this, then you can just spend the extra 30 and upgrade your licence.

basically, if you want to play online for more than $2, i would say that it is essential.
