Best Weekend Ever: The Victorian Assault on Adelaide.

I think I have chosen a pretty apt title for this thread. Sometimes when you have a huge lead-up to a major event it sometimes fails to meet the high expectations that you have. I can safely say that this weekend was everything I expected and much more.
The Victorian's really did assault Adelaide this weekend: the main event, the bottleshops and the poor cabbies. There are so many funny stories (and photos) which I will put here over the coming days. From the gentlemen who was left behind by his friends in central Adelaide after he refused to take a taxi back to the motel unless he got some McNuggets, to the bloke who befriended someone at the Adelaide Casino only to be robbed at 10AM in broad daylight at knifepoint by the same man.
Congrats to Nicole to who took down the tournament for 33K. If ever there was a fairytale story - this is it. I met Nicole on Friday (her boyfriend and I both qualified in the same monthly qualifier). She had come down to Adelaide solely to support her boyfriend and only after some convincing did she enter the last chance rebuy on the Friday night to qualify. She came to Adelaide expecting nothing but walks away with her pockets full of cash and an excited and probably slightly jelous partner.
I got knocked out on the bubble today which was unfortunate but I am pretty happy to have run quite deep in a tournament with some pretty talented poker players. I think the best part of the weekend was meeting everyone.
I met so many people! I must make a short mention of the Murrins who are hands down some of the nicest guys you will meet. Aaron is just what I expected - though the accent threw me a little. The McDonalds are both gentlemen and squires. It was nice to meet BigPete, Des, old-man daryl, Rcon, Krunchie who are all extremely friendly people as are Bruce, Bob and Carmel.
There are a few Victorians who I had a great time with this weekend: Mike, Fleur, Adam, Lynette - don't we have a few stories? The poker-mad Trudgeons are such a nice bunch and the next time I am in Launceston I must come down and visit. (Congrats to Maureen Trudgeon who ran very deep today)
I just arrived back from Adelaide not too long ago and I can safely declare that this was the best tournament ever run by the FHG. Congratulations to Garth for a tournament well run. He was supported at every stage by the stellar 888PL staff members - from the dealers who volunteered on day two to Sarah who managed to get 20+ Victorians from Melbourne to Adelaide and back with very few hiccups and of course Brett who starts his new role at the Poker News Live Reporting team tomorrow morning.
Thanks to Marc, Bacon and the others for following my progress - I hit the forums during a break and while I didn't have time to post I did appreciate the rail.
More to come...
