Some time ago I talked to Dakota about running some training games (poker schools) to teach wannabes like myself some of the finer points of the game. He said it was a good idea but he was waiting to see what Garth was going to do.

Is /was there a plan for some poker school type games for the betterment of the poker mankind?

If so, where & when? If not, wtf not?

It would be good to get something happening before the GFinal

What exactly would you want to be taught?

How much would you be willing to pay for this course?

I can get poker pros in but you are looking anywhere from 5,000 to 20,000 for a two day seminar with a collection of pro's, and that's not the overall cost but the individual cost.

For a two day seminar ran by 888PL with courses conducted by myself and other TC's you would still be looking at anywhere from $800 for the day.

I myself charge anywhere from $30 - $50 per hour per person when I am coaching players from the private sector and group bookings are generally restricted to no more than ten players. And this is on the lowest end of the fee spectrum.

For a decent poker coach you can pay upwards of $600US per hour for one on one coaching, for a name WSOP bracelet winner you are looking at at least five figures.

I myself charge anywhere from $30 - $50 per hour per person when I am coaching players from the private sector and group bookings are generally restricted to no more than ten players. And this is on the lowest end of the fee spectrum.

I was thinking more along the lines of small groups of people, perhaps run by TDs with a small fee per persong to cover expenses to teach basic-medium skills to improve the overall standard of the game.

I have no idea what I or other players of my level need to learn. My skill level is like being on an orange with my current knowledge a direct line of sight. Thus I can't see what's over the horizon (what I need to know) as there are concepts that I don't know exist. (dodgy metaphor I know)

I wasn't thinking of it as a money making event, more of a community service to enhance player skill on the basis of "what's good for the player is good for 888PL" or visa-versa.

The costs quoted above won't make the company any money.

And I can't imagine any of our TC's working for free to set this up.

My workload is large enough that I definitely wouldn't do it for free and would be charging the company quite a sum to run this.

Best place to start educating yourself is Pete is a great little book written by Andy Bloch called the poker book for dummies. I am sincere in this comment. It is the best starting block for novice players.

There is no point attending a group session if you don't at least understand position play, hand selection and bet sizing to begin with.
