Here's 2 key hands in the state finals which ended up costing me a lot of chips.
K9 vs KQ (KQ was all in preflop for about double the blind, 1 other caller)
Board K97 (I scared out the other caller with a bet), turn 10, turn 10. His Q now is a better kicker and wins main pot
-
79 vs A10 (I'm big blind, free flop)
8 10 A - flop up and down straight draw, he bets, I call
turn 6 - made my straight, he bets, im all in, he calls (I have 2500 left over)
river A - makes his full house
Then once again the blinds get too high too quick and I'm just battling to get through a round.

Gotta love the 'I have an ace - I can't lose!' mentality
by love I of course mean really dislike a lot.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Re: 2 keys hand in the State Finals
The way the 2nd hand played out, I dont blame him for calling my all-in. He wouldnt have put me on a str8, and he had top 2 pair.
But this happened like 2 hands after the first one. Just sick. I'm so over poker at the moment to be honest.
Didn't end up going back to play the top 100 with my 6000 in chips... couldnt justify driving all the way back there to see 1 maybe 2 hands.

I don't blame you!
Bad luck mate. I think you used up all your poker energy the day before.
Did you know that the guy who won on Saturday didn't actually "qualify" but bought his place from someone else?

That's highly amusing
I'm sure there's plenty of players who would have done very well that didn't manage to win a tourney in the correct month.
Given Foti's favourite hand....I just can't believe he won!
Clearly it's not a fluke tho, congrats to Foti for saturdays effort.
Anyone know how it finished up yesterday?

I hope the person he "bought" it from had 2 tickets then. Because I had 2 tickets and was able to transfer the 2nd one.

Apparently heads up foti was real short stacked and just kept pushing and getting lucky. He got 90% of my chips QJ vs his KQ. Given the NPL blind structure the final table is just a luck fest.
Don't know how it ended up. I was asleep... still tired as... brain hurts.

Re: 2 keys hand in the State Finals
Hi Guys,
I would like to address several issues raised here.
1.) Foti "buying" his way in: Both Carlos and myself heard this rumor and approached Foti on this matter. He did not buy his way in, his seat was transferred from another player that won two tournaments. I would also like to add that only players who won 1 or more tournaments could transfer their secondary seats. Primary seats could not be transferred.
2.) Prizes: Previously mentioned above was the fact that most online Satellites offer cash prizes for those that place highly but do not win. This is true, of BUY IN satellites. You play any tiered free roll structure and you would have to play your way through over 3000 players, where only one or two players will walk away with a major prize. Don't get me wrong I would love to supply prizes to every final table player for every major tournament but sometimes this is not sustainable.
Des I know you feel ripped off I too have lasted deep into several online tournaments to achieve very little for my time. But take a moment to feel for Roger. He came second and won a hat.
But backed up the next day to finish third at the state finals. That is an unbelievable task.

Re: 2 keys hand in the State Finals
And on another note I would like to thank wholeheartedly our team of dedicated staff and all of SA's poker playing community. Without the hard work and enthusiasm of the NPL team here in SA and the passion for poker our loyal supporters have these two great days of poker would never have run as effectively or well as they did.
CONGRATULATIONS to all state finalists!

Re: 2 keys hand in the State Finals
Third??
He was down to $1k in chips when he was "interviewed". That's a damn fine effort.
Garth - I wasn't commenting about his ticket entry because it was wrong, I just thought it was something to talk about.
I know people can transfer their second winning seats, but I heard on the day that various people "auctioned" theirs off as well, including Foti getting his.
To be honest, I don't care if someone paid for someone else's seat, or second seat! Just means you're more keen...
I don't know if there's anything in writing about not being able to sell your seat?
I did hear on the day though, that more than one person decided to on-sell their positions.
