You're a Bunch of Factors

sorry for the third topic in such a short time, but i have another question.

i have been playing the micro limit omaha and omaha H/L tables lately. these are fun, and i absolutely love playing them, but its basically lotto. so many people are there for fun and/or have no idea what they are doing, so it pretty much makes it impossible to put them on a range of hands.

my results reflect this - i am slightly up overall on these tables, but there has been a couple of big swings.

any tips on playing these games - or is it just best to avoid them?

Omaha is a very technical game and all about drawing.

benny the cunt I would avoid micro limits at this level until you are extremely disciplined.

When you can learn how to fold the second nuts, or straights and flushes to a paired board.

Then I would consider resuming, as an aggressive player who likes to 'represent' these games will blow your bankroll in a very small space of time.

I love the action that Omaha supplies but the swings in this game are very dramatic.

What levels are you playing? What is your roll? Are you shortstacking and or multi tabling?

first things first, there is definitely no representing in omaha games, but yes, folding the second nuts is obviously hard.

this is why i like it so much - its very mathematical and odds based, which i like since i am an engineer and therefore a maths geek i think my omaha game is better than my holdem game in a lot of respects.

i am currently playing the 0.05/0.1 PLO games, buying for either 5 or 10 each time.

my roll is a bit over 100 at this time. in 10+ omaha sessions, i am prolly up about 20 in the omaha games.

i haven't played them seriously for the purpose of building my roll, but more just for fun.

my question is basically related to whether you think that its worth spending time on these tables, because there is LOTS of action and it means the swings are massive - or whether i should only play these games for fun and move up a level if i wanna get serious.

lol my problem is not laying hands down, but when i am creating the action. but i dont seem to do this in omaha as much

Don't. Just try and work out if they are playing of high pairs. Everything else will start to work out. Such as do they often play double suited, or 1 Nut suit, do they play suited gappers. Do they play straight draws.

If you can put someone in Omaha on a AsAh2h7s hand, then you should start playing holdem with those hand reading skills.

There are a lot of bad players in these games until you start going up the levels. You can basically be a nit and get paid off a lot of the times. However the swings are also quite big, a lot bigger than holdem.

Best way to play these games varies. Mainly hand selection, play Pot limit to reduce a little of the amount your going to lose when a holdem player pushes all in with an AAxx hand.

Take your time look at your redraws look at your wraparounds. Don't play to one hand, e.g. Playing to the straight on a board that has a flush draw.

Don't be afraid to fold hands preflop with pairs in them.

Remember A Set on the flap is still behind to the Flush and Straight Draw combo.

Two Pair is hardly ever any good.
Always look at your underfull as well.
Don't go all in until the river card has been turned over .

lol what i meant by putting them on a range of hands is whether they are drawing to the flush, straight or both, will they chase a 10 high flush or just the nut flush, etc.

of course putting them on specific cards is impossible, but i think you can put them on top set or a draw etc.

I found that simply looking at the 4 cards you are dealt and ALWAYS making sure you know what hands you can make with the different combinations of your 4 cards (remembering you must use only 2 of them) automatically makes you think more about what draws your opponents might have.

Certainly makes putting players on a range of hands in Hold 'em seem a lot easier.

Two Pair is behind to a straight draw and possible flush draws.

Trips is even money to a Open Ended straight and flush draw.

Trips is 40-60 to Open Ended straight flush draw.

Like coinflips Omaha is for you.

Yep, had it on good authority very early on that 2 pair is rubbish

4 pair is awesome though.

Top 2 pair is a quality hand in an aggressive 6-handed game. If someone is raising every hand and then potting every flop then top two pair is a hand you are prepared to go broke on.

Also bluffing is a big part of omaha. Because of the pot-limit nature it can actually be easier to read a players hand than in hold'em. If for instance the flop has straight cards and a flush draw, and you are calling pot-sized bets on the flush draw, then the betting player suddenly checks when the river pairs the board, well u should be potting this even if its your whole stack, since they probably have the str8 and will put you on the full house.

As always, position is extremely important.
