here's my tip and what i have learnt to do...

If you are big blind heads up DO NOT look at your cards preflop until the dealer has acted this will eliminate any chance of the other person getting a read on you and stealing your big blind ;)

The way I approach heads up play is to not come second. I find it a much better ploy to win.

Seriously though,

Heads up strategy thread - Although this isn't extremely helpful in terms of what you're looking for

Or, you might want to read up on the SAGE system. Lots of articles online, this is just one of many.

If you're not prepared to raise preflop, don't limp in, just fold. That's my advice.

When you watch WPT on TV, do you ever see a hand checked down preflop? The answer is no. There is always a raise.

As much as I agree with this sentiment...

have massive stacks behind them. Not very often you get that in NPL, even heads up. You need to be more selective in NPL

Having said that however, my advice is, if you chose to play a hand heads up, make sure you raise. Make them pay to play and define their hand. Just make sure you respect their betting when an over card falls if they've called your large raise. I wouldn't make that mistake           note to self: wanting them not to have an ace DOES NOT WORK

The SAGE system i mentioned deals specifically with short stack HU play, Matt.

Cheers Scott - I must admit, I probably would have ignored it otherwise. It is frustrating reading about all these fantastic strategies and not being able to use them due to being short stacked.

edit: great article scott. kind of how i play heads up anyway, but fantastic explanation of what is going on. thanks muchly.
