You're a Bunch of Factors

I can't decide if I like the round or the oval tables the best.

The round tables are better for watching someone squirm when you are stealing the pot from them, and for dealing shite cards to peoples faces.

But because I'm a fat porker, I like the added room on the oval ones.

Any suggestions? I am thinking of buying a professional table for some home game goodness.

I'd prefer an oval table for a home game, I like the space it offers.

I sounds like I am of a similar stature as yourself Burger. However I really prefer the round as it's much easier to rake the cards or chips and to deal without turning a card.

Have you ever noticed how on a round table most people actually sit where the cup is???? Yet on the oval they want to sit in between the cups which really pees me off especially those sitting on the ends with all the bloody room to themselves.

On the round table the ability to see everyone at the table and their movements or tells is a good advantage. Whereas if you're on a corner of the oblong tables you miss the three punters immediately to your left.

Also being left handed I really need to sit on the RH corner for easier dealing. However, you do have a couple of option similar to myself.

1. lose weight, hmmmmm, now that would be a bonus for me

2. get the one you are comfortable with i.e, the round one.

3. Get an octagonal table and delete all the problems with room and visability.

Well, usually that's where the TD puts the chairs and chips! People just sit where they are.

TD = venue staff methinks. But yes, no1 seems to think to just move it along a few inches to the left or right.

I've become the table nazi when I play on the oval tables now. The TD's usually put the chips directly in front of the cup holders.

And for some reason a guy with a pint of beer thinks your gonna be his beer caddy all friggin nite. Well not me not ever as a little bit of the old Tony "G" comes out of me then.

So, maybe the TD's can encourage people to sit directly behing their cup holders like they do when they sit at the round tables?????

It's not rocket science so it should be easy to do.

I'd go with a nice looking wood oval table with a thick chunky base myself. Depends on the room it's going in but I'd probably prefer a dark stain as well just because I prefer it over a lighter loo. I guess that I really just prefer the look, feel and extra room that an oval table provides over the round ones.

Of course as it's been suggested... when you've got that oval table full of punters it can be a little more difficult to watch or try to make someone squirm with average cards in a healthy pot when your on one of the flats.


But if you walk into a designated poker room at someones house and you see a good quality oval table, it just looks so much better. Oval!
