Garth, that's pretty much what I was saying to begin with :)

In particular, your opponents suspected shoving range (in particular if it's only pairs 7 or higher, for example) would of course have an impact on if you call or not and it absolutely should be considered. My main point which I will absolutely refuse to budge on is that some thought SHOULD be applied (as opposed to none at all because the odds are brilliant) and then a decision made from there as to what suits you personally. I personally would include things such as "well if I fold they haven't really gained anything and I'm still in the box seat" as part of that decision making process.

I tend to factor in things like "what's the result if I lose this hand, and what will that mean" as well as "ok, these are what I think my chances of winning this hand are". I guess that could be referred to as looking at the situation past that one single hand and letting that have an influence (in varying degrees) on any decision making process.

I think too much emphasis can be placed on the pure maths. It's not like you can enter into a 90/10 race and ask that they run it the other 9 times because 1 in 10 times you were supposed to win and end up in front. 1 in 10 is still 1 in 10 and that fact doesn't change no matter what odds you are getting. This is why I am trying to emphasise that as many other factors as possible should be included in the decision making process (for anything really).
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Let's look at odds; and sometimes decisions can be made simply because the odds are there and no other thought is required.

If we were to say flip a coin 100 times and we wager $1 on each flip, you back heads and I back tails, but I give you three to one on tails do you take this wager?

If you are sitting in the BB against an opponent who is shoving the top 40% of hands and you look down at AT do you make the call, knowing that you are getting 3 to 1 on your call and you bust the bubble on a Satellite event?

You are in the middle of the tournament, you have no idea about chip stack size (yours or your opponents). You are in a heads up situation (after all action has been folded) haven't looked at your cards but the pot odds are offering 8 to 1 on a call. It's not an all in confrontation rather it's just go to a flop. What is your first inclination?

What has that got to do with the very specific example I was referring to, in that 2 7 is indeed foldable in the previously mentioned scenario?

My original reply was basically aimed at benny the cunt who suggested we would need our heads read if we ever folded there, in that exact situation. I disagreed (still do) and have now more thoroughly explained why, that is all.

Of course there are other situations.

i still maintain that any time where you have odds, and it doesn't hurt your stack to make a call, then you should.

especially if you are getting 10:1 and you only need 4:1 to make the call

And I still maintain there's other things to consider.

I look forward to you handing 5% of your stack to me 9 out of 10 times and you mistakenly fold the 1 time you would have won :)
