not bringing the bubble into the equation, the point is precisely what you just said... heads up with one other player. If you're on some sort of draw surely you'd want them out of the hand? Checking it down just gives them a chance to hit their cards or improve their hand further - no thank you.

Mind you every situation is different, there are many reasons (most of them always correct or right) to play a hand a certain way.

I agree with that, pushing all-in (particularly after just calling the previous all-in) just looks like a buy anyway. I can certainly agree with trying to extract more chips from the live opponent if you feel they are drawing dead.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Saw it happen 3 times tonight at my table

Player A is all in pre flop
Player B Calls
Player C Calls

Flop is say A B C
Player B checks
Player C raises
Player B folds

Turn and River D E

Player A wins
Player B would have won and knocked out player A
Player C was bluffing and lost

This happened twice by the same player C when there was 16-20 players left and both times the short stack all in survived yet the player that folded would have won.

3rd time he tried it player C got lucky
Player A goes All In
Player B Calls
Player C Calls

Flop A B C
Player B Checks
Player C Raises
Player B calls All In

Turn gave Player C Trips
River gave Player B Nut Flush But gives Player C Full Book

Player A & B are out in 11th & 10th position

Suppose its up to the individual but if a player hasnt hit the nuts i dont see the strategy in pushing another player out to take on the short stack all in heads up

Haven't read all the the topic. Its late.

How i deal with dry side pots, is that if i have a solid hand. E.g Pair, and decent kicker. Then i will bet, this is to ensure that i have a chance at all the chips, not bluffing to hurry the game up.

If the other player involved is chasing a draw, i don't want him to hit it, and then see him rake in the chips.

Basically i want to give myself the best opportunity to get the money from the middle. Which means bet if i have any kind of hand. Or check if i haven't.

Usually i do this, and the all in somehow manages to jag trips or straight. Really annoying.

ok, situation:

Playing a certain type of game,
(for some: betting with actual * values and not just a tourny with * prizes which alot of people seem to think is called a * game!!)

Player 1 moves all in on the flop player 5 and 6 call with money still remaining.

Still wanna check down that dry side pot guys??

Firstly I would take into account the level of skill, and poker knowledge my apponents have.

If I find my self sitting with amateurs I will bet at the pot, if I feel im strong, If Im sitting at a table with seasoned players, I will check it down provided the pot is not a substantial size to my stack also taking into account my position on the table, (I dont want to be paying big blind next with no chips), Also with players who know and believe in the etiquette they will tell you this, if you bet into a dry side pot more then likely the only hand that calls is a better hand.

Scenarios,

* they represents the live player

You bet, they fold, you win (no extra chips gained)
You bet, they fold, you loose (no extra chips gained)
You bet, they call, you loose (no extra chips gained)
You bet, they call, you win (extra chips gained)
You bet, they fold, you loose (all in trips up)
You check, they Check, you win (no extra chips gained)
You check, they Check, you loose (no extra chips gained)

1 instance there where you get extra chips by betting, out of 7!

and in the first 5, by betting all your doing is giving the player all in a lifeline.

If 1 person reads this im happy.

YAY I was waiting for James to read this topic

In the first 2 examples James, you could probably add "and no extra chips lost either".

It's not so bad IMO to only have to beat one other person (the all-in).
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

i am starting to warm to this idea of not chucking chips into a pot.

its not usually my style to not bet if someone else is just checking, but i see the reason why its done.

watch out when u are all in against me next time!
