How do you stop people colluding via instant messaging? You can’t. So to think that IP restrictive limits are going to be a practical solution is like sticking a finger in a dyke (a Dutch dam designed to keep the sea out NOT the other type) and then another hole is created. Plug that hole and another is created (old cartoon).

As with P2P file sharing and other technologies, as soon as some attempt to thwart or restrict its use is attempted then users easily circumvent it with something new. Look at the daily battle youtube has to stop people downloading their videos.

For a live based league the only way to restrict multiple accounts is to marry the live account with the online.
This post is compliant with anti-comedy policies of this forum. Although not hurt, 10 clowns were sent mad in the production of this post and will undergo group therapy whilst crammed into a very, very small car.

Maybe it is more specific and you can't play in same tournament or on same table - I can't recall for sure if we've played in same tournament or not.

pretty sure it doesnt let you onto the same tourney

it does stop the same person playing 2 different accounts at the same time, but you cant stop collusion

Yeah, you can play simultaneously in different tournaments/different ring game tables. Where's the harm in that, there's no advantage to be gained. The only problem is with same table/same tournament play.

Of course you cannot stop collusion entirely online - this is a risk you take with online poker (and indeed live poker, but it's easier to spot). Measures such as IP filtering merely reduce it - many people are lazy and are unwilling to go to any huge effort to collude, so making it even slightly more difficult helps mitigate damage on that front. And while associating an online account with a live identity is a fine idea for something like 888pl, the fact remains that 888's software needs some measure of security against this regardless - I'm amazed the site maintains the patronage it does given how far behind in terms of features, and indeed basic functionality by way of comparison to it's competitors.

The most stringent site I have found for this is Party Poker.

Played at a mate's house once (he wasn't there) - then next time I attempted to register for an MTT at home that he was already registered for, it told me i wasn't able to, due to some sort of IP recognition.
