everyone seems to be clicking "tight aggressive"

everyone THINKS they are tight aggressive, and everyone WANTS to be tight aggressive, but give an honest assessment of yourself - u am definitely on the loose side of this, and when i tighten up, i play well.

Learn to handle myself better at the table. For example, I've been told that when I have the nuts, I look too relaxed and confident. That needs to change. And when I have nothing, I'll look nonchalant and quickly check. And yes, as everyone knows, I take forever to make a decision when I have the nuts ;)

And when I have a 50/50 hand, like say QJ UTG, KT 3rd pos, I take a while to decide whether to go all in or not (if blinds are high) - which shows weakness. I need to fold straightaway or go all in.

I feel I have a good read on players (could obviously be better) and I bet well - I get shown a lot of respect at the table. You're always learning and improving as a poker player.

How about this, does anyone think they could tell me how I could improve as a poker player?

Best way to work out what kind of a player you are is to work out what hands you are playing and out of those hands what you are raising with.

There are a lot of poker tracking software online, that records a lot of input. This helps to detect what hands you play, how you play them and the value you get from each position.

This works for both tournaments and also for Cash games, lot more beneficial in cash games because you can plug the leaks so to speak.

So there are an initial 169 starting hands.
So most people consider optimum starting hands anywhere from 18% to 28%. Or 30 to 48 different starting hands.

Now they like to see how often they raise preflop with these hands. So take into account and runners. Lets say you raise with these hands 2 out of 3 times. You then are raising your starting hands 66% of the time.

On a lot of poker forums, you will see people mentioning stats about other players. So if you see 28/40, he plays 28% of starting hands and raised 40% of the time with those hands.

Using your knowledge of the player over time, you should be able to work out what he is holding.

I.E 28/40 player, on a board of 6, 10, 2. He bets on the flop for 1/2pot. All your info tells that he bets half to three quarters with Ak,Aq,Aj. And full pots with top pair weak kicker, 10,9 10,8 10,j.

You can plug this information in to get a better understanding of where you are in the hand. So rather than having it random, your two cards against the board. You can start narrowing it down and the odds improve in you favour, where originally it is wrong to call, but now, you actually have value to call the bet. Or sometimes even reraise it if you are still favourite.

Once again, evolution of a player.

Im much the same. I'm happy to sit and wait for a playable hand (not always optiumum hands, depends on position and who I'm up against), and I'll rarely call just to see the flop, its either raise or fold. If I sense weakness in my opponent I'm more than happy to try and assert some dominance though. Its a strategy that works brilliantly well for longer tournaments, but not so great in nightly pub games.

I went 'tight and aggressive' but in reality it's probably somewhere between 'tight aggressive' and 'tight and cautious with betting', with the occasional 'looser than average and aggressive' play thrown in when I get flustered. I guess thats a weakness, but it's probably the same for everyone.

Brett, online, i usually play the very low limit (<10) deepstack games. my flop percentages are usually around 32-35%, but this if course depends on what the table is like, and how loose it is.

i think this is a good strategy in these games, because people often get blinded by their top pair or overpair, and play this VERY aggressively.

for some of the higher limit games, i tighten up a bit, probably go down to around 25%, but this is still pretty loose i would think

as for betting preflop, probably around 30%, probably less, especially at the low limits. LOL online low limit u better have premium hands when u raise
