I was too scared to even play my good hands, and when I did, it got well and truly smashed!!

I remember a quote from Jen Harman when referring to a hand in a WSME from a few years ago.

"It's was a tough call, but you can't play like a wimp and fold all your good hands either"

Sometimes you just have to go for it when your opponents have such a wide range like you were describing. Especially in a turbo-format structure like 888PL.

good post caleb. if you happen to hit the top of their range, then its just bad luck.

10 High held.

So who played the hand better?

8-)

Just remind yourself that poker is a game of skill and you are a much better player than them. Patience is a severely underrated skill in poker. Wait for your chance to destroy them.

Alternatively I like to imagine beating them over the head with a stick while waiting. Helps get the anger out.

Everything already posted is excellent advice, and i dont have much to add to it. i recently had a maniac at a PLO table, pot raising 7/10 hands pre, pot raising flops way too often was obvious he could not have the goods all those times. So firstly I loosened up a bit, and of course dropped a buyin to him (mostly sucking out). Then I decided to play like a nit. And ended up with my original stack back, plus about 2 1/2 more! Patience is definitley the key here... Wait for a good hand, and get it in... Although as Caleb mentioned, in the standard 888PL super-turbo structure, you cant always wait for the premo QQ+ either. Sometimes just showing resistence will slow them down a bit to...

For sure, if its just about making money, then nit up here... But I think Id rather sit at a good table if i weas there to enjoy the poker (but not superstars, no)...

I liked krunchie's post on this one. In your explanation you list the reesult of a few hand's that you 'would have won' had you played. But as krunchie suggested, looking at your decision, not the result is important. And as explained, it seems you played each hand correctly.

+1

Oh and jacqianie, I played at the 10 man table at my local a few weeks ago (with a few very pissed players) and we only got 7 hands in before the first break! I feel you there...

Thanks for all the advice and replies. I guess I was just so disheartened at what end up being a waste of a night out. As I said, it was THE WORST night I've ever come across

A couple of nights sleep and I'm ready to play again tonight......got to get a game in before I go away for a couple of days!!

Come back Sunday, straight into the Wild West Challenge!

 Maybe I play too much poker?????

..............

Naaaahhhh!! Not enough!!! :D

i find that sitting on mates' tables is a good way to go at your standard pub game.

we quite often have 5 or 6 of us sitting on the same table.

it means that its harder to qualify, because we would most certainly be better than the average player, but it makes for a fun night.

in general, i dont worry about point scoring in venue, and i have much more fun.

then, just pick an online challenge game and play it every week. you are pretty much guaranteed finishing top 5 if you play the same one every week.

so its a win-win-win. you have fun at the venue, you support 888pl, and you qualify for the big finals.

Most of the 'in-venue' games I play now are Challenge ones (lots of those on offer here in Vic Outer West!), so for the most part I don't worry about who I'm sitting with, the poker gods decide that for me

But foundation games we definately have our own very competitive group, and I definately enjoy those nights!! (Not so many bad beats, supposedly)

My opinion on this varies, but TBH if every single player played the same the game would be horribly boring.

I absolutely agree, it'd be boring and predictable.

It was just real head exploding being caught up in a table that was ummmmm shall we say, not boring and predictable??

if everyone played the same, you wouldn't be able to win either, the rake would kill us all!
