This.

Organising a check down is collusion. It should pretty much be a known thing between all players - you will know whether your opponent is content to check it down or not. Take that into consideration before you do anything.

Also, raise preflop next time :P

I don't think the result of the hand was the point of the OP.

Spoiler:
both the All-In & the BB got full houses. 9's over 5's v 5's over 9's... trishan's 2 pair with Ace kicker was no good.
I'm not perfect. I'm what perfect aspires to become

I would have thought that you'd be used to the general dodginess of the 888 software by now :P.

And yeah, you cannot explicitly ask/agree to check something down, that's collusion, and really not cool. If both players are aware of the benefit of checking down a dry sidepot, so be it, but you cannot ask, or even advise someone to check down a pot without being really unethical.

Knowing it's bad, then saying yes anyway...

Probably not the best thing to do.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Let you in on one of the greatest little known poker idea ever.

Implicit collusion.

Pretty much you don't say a thing, call the all in, and check it down, anyone bets the other folds. usually indicates that the player who bets feels that his hand is strong enough to take out the all in.

As soon as you mention anything about checking it down, you have turned it into blatant collusion. Which gets pretty big smacks in my book.

If you are playing with people that have no clue, sometimes easier to fold and let themselves get chipped down, by chipping up the all in. And then having two short stacks to your healthier stack.

Or the 888PL "live" word for checking it down...

"friendly?"

hehe I remember way back in season 1 (ever) wishing the guy acting after me would check so I just declared "oh it's a friendly table" and the look on his face changed and he just went ahead and checked!

I didn't exactly ask him to but it was good of him to feel obliged all the same :)

Ok fair enough. Another thing that is quite common and pisses me off a tad is when people shove and make comments like:
"Got to go - got early shift tomorrow"
"Going out guys sorry"
"Going to bed"

That's just not on. They oftentimes reveal monster hands or rags that go on to knock people out who actually want to play.

agreed - you are a douche if that happens

and if they actually have to go to bed, then why register in the first place. or if something comes up and you have to go, then just leave your stack and go.

Yep, that peeves me to!
Happens alot in the away games to. Get ppl saying "Oh i could only play until 8.30"... Its 8:15 so im allin... "THEN DON"T EVEN REGISTER"
Or worse, people saying it to induce a call (hence why never to beleive anyone at the poker table most of the time)
And sometimes, people just get that 'double up or go to bed' mentality in late night tourneys to...

Had that situation near the end of last away game, but the guy was really trying to bust himself (Cant abandon a stack live???)
Funny thing was he ended up sucking out amazingly, even to about 5th on the FT... Allin 25 hands in a row or something crazy like that... He just shoved blind every time, flipping (mostly) trash but managing them to hold up somehow...

Trishan, as far as i know, the only time you CAN explicitly ask for a check down is if there are only the 2 of you in the pot, but again you should exercise caution beleiving them...

And the whole 'Dont bet into a dry sidepot' thingy to give a higher probability of busting the allin player, while a sound strat... well, by the river you either have or havent, and I dont really see anything wrong if a player hits the nuts or whatever placing a value bet against the other non-allin player(s)... although i do agree trishan if you had previously agreed not to, then your breaking your word, Im refering to Brett's implicit version...
Image ...11.59% of bad beat stories are just misplayed hands ...
