This might get me flamed.
But if you do want to start up online, and feel confident with your skills. But want to try and avoid the downswings and variance.
Limit holdem is a great way to value your hands, and draws more efficiently. Also allows you to control pot sizes. either with check calls on the turn and river.
Once you feel comfortable at limit, you could then move to no limit, or tackle pot limit.
Pot limit, i find is a lot less stressful, because it is more about pot control, and also bet sizing comes into play, and the game once again is more about control than pushing with most money and hoping and praying.
No Limit, Yes we all have played it, and enjoy it, but a lot of the time, there is variance, downswings and upswings to contend with. And if you sit a table and your already shortstacked it makes it difficult to push people off a hand or to play your drawing hands better.
