Nah, it was never 1/2 man. 50/1 is the highest I've played online.

No offense AK, but 50/1 is not in your bankroll, minimum of a $1,000 needed for this one! But I think closer to 3K is slightly more acceptable for the variance you will cop at this level.

Yeah :)

I only ever touched 50/1 when I had 800 or more in my account, and it was only for $50-80, for the one session. benny the cunt is going a bit overboard.

When I get back to online poker, I am moving up when I have 30 buyin's for each level.

Are you planning on moving back down when you only have 30 buyins left of the previous level?

Pokerstars ruins that nicely for you by having the same minimum buyin amount for 2/5 and 5/10
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Yeah. In the past I haven't followed BRM at all, and I know that is my biggest downfall. I won't be happy about it, but I am prepared to move down if needed.

I think I'll be putting in $300 to start at 5/10. I'll really be tempted to take shots at 10/25, but I'm hoping I can resist until I have 30BI ($750).

Re: Your Poker Biography

Going from the dates i can just remember. :-)

Have been bought up in hotels, so Gambling was a bit of the nature of my beast. And drinking. So scratchies, poker machines, Horse racing, Dogs, have seen them all, won on every single type of bet except for a straight six (lost by a mofo lip). All that time, it was a challenge to me.

I found the internet when i was 16, and in that time i have made a lot of friends playing online games, Mainly of the java and flash variants. I played a lot of euchre and 500 in high school, and was comfortable playing these games first. Learnt Spades, Crib, Gin, a lot more. I still speak to a few of the people i met playing these games. I enjoyed a lot of the strategy, mainly trying to work out the best possible way to win the game and trying to guess where the cards where in play.

When i turned 18, i think it was about 3 or 4 weeks later i went to Melbourne, First time in the casino. And i proceeded to lose $5 on my very first hand of blackjack. Didn't have a clue how to play it, 21 easy to count yeah. It was a few months later when my brother took me down there, and we proceeded to blow some money and stay at a 5 star hotel, before i think one of us flew to Queensland.

Did this a few other times before it finally sunk in, I suck, I need to know the game better so i can play better, standard Card game player mentality. So i did the old google search and came across a blackjack game on a site called pokerroom.com.

I think it has me listed on Pokah as being 2001, but i was playing on there in 2000. Mainly blackjack with play money, trying to understand the hands, how things work. Putting my own little spin with chaos. And still trying to make some dollars so it didn't look like i was failing at it too much. I never ran my bankroll up to far because i found an interesting otherside to pokerroom. There were card games. One was called chinese poker.

Chinese poker is 13 cards dealt to you as a player. Playing against 1,2 or 3 opponents. You are playing for points, each point being worth $. So a $10 point could have $100 a hand swings. still with play money. The idea is to have you 13 cards sorted into 2 5 card hands and 1 three card hand. HI, Med Lo. The Hi has to beat you Mid and your mid has to beat you LO. And you had bonus points. Quads or better in your front, full house or better in your mid, and 3 of a kind in the back.

Well this is where the learning began for my poker. Had to learn the hand rankings pretty quickly. Plus you have to learn to have an overall good hand. E.g having a four of a kind in the front is good, but pair in the mid and pair in the lo means you don't get enough value. Whereas a well rounded hand might look like a fullhouse, trips, pair. Sacrificing cards to make the best possible value hand.

Anyways. I got sick of Chinese one night, and came across holdem. They had tournaments and cash games. Always a challenge i thought the 10 person in, 1st 2nd 3rd payouts were more my style. I started to play the sit n gos. One page had hand rankings, another page had Starting hand values and EV rankings Handy to have

I did use some real money at this stage. Lowlights include busting my brothers account for $50US In a PLO game where my aces full lost to a royal. Never felt sicker. Learnt an important lesson though. Always be aware of what hands are on the board, i forget this one sometimes. But good to be aware of it. :-).

I went to America in 2004. I was working in a summer camp, and there was a staff game that got up, usually $10 or so, and mainly just a 500 piece set, with everyone getting an equal share of the chips. So think of starting a game shortstacked and then having a deepstack towards the end. Makes it interesting. My boss knocked me out with 4 of a kind, i paid him off with a full house, and he cleaned out most of us within the next two weeks. Not fun at all. But still all a learning experience.

When i came back to Australia, i bought a set of Ebay, Taught a few people how to play, with the WPT on tv, a few uni students were interested. My brother was still mucking around on pokerroom.

Then A PL came to town. My brother, My dad and myself all went there.
Mum was closing the hotel, and it Was Anzac Day 06. We rocked up early, got told that game didn't start til 7.30, and to enjoy ourselves. Ended up 13th and made points, on top of the world.

After that, Garth got serious about it all, Had random bits of useful information coming out of his butt, Ak has a 1 in 3 chance of hitting on the flop, Aces coming out 1 in 220 hands. All that. Calculating Outs on the turn and river. Garths quest was to make states. Mine was to just win the tournament. Garth learnt to read people well, and i just floundered.

Obviously we have seen where this story goes. I still consider myself a student of the game, there are parts of my game that i wish i could fix. But being in a place that lacks physical poker games. I can only play maths, and the odd occasional Online tell. Still fixing leaks. Still cheering support for anyone that asks for it.

Also being away from my brother when he cashed big, Can tell you i was cheering big time in WA. At 1am in the morning LOL. Head chef of the hotel was a little annoyed. :-). Then backing it up again the following Sunday. Made me realise that poker is more than a game, it is a way of life, Calculated risks, the right moves at the right times. And for that perfect moment, Running a bluff so big that you have to shake your head and be amazed at the balls you have to pull it off.
