Re: How did you go at states ?
Don't feel so bad Scott about Sunday, that same table was absolutely killing me too. I was sooo glad to get off it, it was as though every player on it was a cooler. I had them all covered when I sat down and was the shortest stack when I got moved.
I'm going to skip over Saturdays report because I have nothing exciting to say about it. Was card dead and also playing badly in the Melb Champs satellite event and got knocked out by K fricking 4. I made a point of mentioning this to Garth on the way out. Garth loves K 4.
The partners event was a joke. Enough said. I did like the format though and would welcome seeing it again but in different circumstances.
Sundays Main Event was a real mixed bag for me. I made a sensational start, I felt I had worked out every player on the table in about 4 hands and pretty much every single time I decided to play a hand it worked out for me. Highlight was limping in early position with Q 10 offsuit, not something I'd regularly do but I was confident of outplaying anyone on the table. I flopped trip 10's and check called. Turned a full house and check called. Rivered quads and check min-raised, got called, and my stack went from around 5k to 9k and left my opponent completely crippled. THAT is why you check instead of betting.
By the 1st break I was sitting on a shade over 16k and feeling very good about my game.
Our table was broken one hand before the 1st break (CURSE being sat near the back!!) and as I mentioned before I just did not like the feel of the table I got moved to. Nothing I tried came off at all and it was pretty much the complete opposite of the 1st session. By the 2nd break I was down to around 3500 and getting pretty shirty with it. Luckily I was moved not long after Scott came to the table (thanks Dakota!) and I had the pleasure of being able to sit down with some familiar faces in Pseft (Pete), Tony Bickle, and Cazz - who I had not yet had the pleasure of playing with. I instantly felt much more in control but sadly just couldn't get a reasonable starting hand that I felt I would be able to make a move with given my stack size relative to everyone elses. Pushed once with A K but didn't get called. SHOULD have pushed with 89 of diamonds but chose not to. Got knocked out when my 55 ran into 77 who made a set just for fun. I can definitely handle losing to a better hand though and had no problems saying well done to my opponent. I think there were around 120-150 runners left at that stage - not as deep as I would have liked but I have to be honest and say I did ok to hang around with what I did have.
It was great to recapture some form both on fri night and sun morn, had started to forget what it felt like!

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Re: How did you go at states ?
My states run was unbelievably unlucky! (Scott can vouch for this as he was on my table)
Flopped two pair to get done by runner runner straight (thanks scott!)
Flopped two pair again to get done by runner runner full house
Went all in on JJ to be called by 77 and he hits a flush
Every hand i was beaten.....just couldnt get ahead! I lasted just under 2 hours though...my only highlight was not betting my two pair on the river when scott checked his straight (great read by me)
Oh well, at least I won $150 on a jackpot at the pokies to make me up for the day

Turned straight, Vic.
You're right though - if someone was calling you, they would invariably out-draw you.

Can I take a stab in the dark, and guess what the hands were here?
I'm thinking Vic with A5o, Scott with 63s?

Re: How did you go at states ?
10 9 x board
Check to Vic, bets 200, button folds, I call
Turn K
Check to Vic, another 200, call
River 8
Check again, Vic thinks for a bit, then checks
10 9 v Q J
I needed a duece or some such to hit on the river, to get a 3rd bet out of Vic.

So Vic was right .. runner runner straight.

Re: How did you go at states ?
I figured at the time there was more chance of her firing a 3rd bet(as she was tilting somewhat
) to another check.
I was wrong, but I'll get over it.
