Re: Im bored with super turbo poker.
It kind of sucks for NPL tho - we've become good (or should that be "better") players because of our time in NPL and exposure to people like yourself and TDs, and now we want more from NPL because of it

Re: Im bored with super turbo poker.
In the end the poker playing market in both states has shown a dramatic increase of skill and understanding when it comes to poker and tournament structures.
NPL has been too slow to adapt, any changes of significant magnitude (such as increased start stacks) has an impact on our business model as well as the contractors in the field.
By Season 3 there will be changes, but in the meantime there are other changes that need to take place first.
In Season 2 we will begin trialling different formats of tournaments throughout the majority of Metro regions as well as BG.

It's been mentioned that some venues are trialling an increase start stack. Is there a list anywhere of such venues?

Re: Im bored with super turbo poker.
i know what you are saying garth, but in some respects, you have been saying "big things in the pipeline" for a while now, and to be honest, nothing seems to be happening, except for the introduction of FTT tourneys.
things like introducing a 400/800 blind level seem to have been on trial forever now - (in the B&G for 3 odd seasons now) is there any outcomes of these trials?
i understand that changes take time and considerable effort and money. and those of us that love NPL are willing to wait around for the changes to occur.
there would be a significant proportion of the player base that aren't as loyal however, and i think NPL might need to move a big quicker to stop competitors from muscling in with other formats than the super turbo. this is my experience in the B&G region anyway.
such as??

Unfortunately it has been one hold up after another. One hurdle and as soon as you think everything is fine something else rears it's head.
Take the most recent ruling from the ATO on GST applicable to tournament entries. This hurts the poker industry, especially operators that have been operating for several years. A lot of companies are going to get slapped with $1 million plus fines.
And as to the alternate supplier, if they were offering a buy in event did they charge GST on the entries? Because it looks like this is what has to occur.
We also have legal and accounting consultants to contact numerous times. There are several big projects that we have been working on for almost six months now, and finally I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.
And by the end of the year, everyone will look back at this and go "ahhhhhh, that's what Garth was alluding to"

Re: Im bored with super turbo poker.
i can try, but i probably dont appreciate the legal minefield that poker sits in, as the game that straddles the border between luck and skill.
is this a result of the fact that poker is now a game of skill? does this mean that tax is payable on the winnings also??
does it mean that i will have to pay GST for the entry fee for the next trivia night?
dealing with all that crap on a day to day basis would do my head in i think

Re: Im bored with super turbo poker.
hmm very interesting.
interesting thread this....
emotional posts ,understanding replies,pending changes/improvements,
as I psoted sometime previously and it still appears to still applies...' B & G the Heartbeat of NPL Poker ".
.............................................................................
ps...lighter note -- it appears Jammo after the FTT at Clare and his 'initiation " read sleepover weekend and his witness to a 'bruce folder' to get points/FT he can now claim true B&G status.
Gundog has also been granted a permanent vistor's Visa...
