Re: What would YOU do??
Excuse me, I was busy folding pocket 9s from the SB to an all in, not raising 5k with shitty cards.
I would've called.

Re: What would YOU do??
It all depends on what your goal was doesn't it?
If it was purely points (ie. chasing states spots), fold.
If you wanted a win, call.

well i needed to make up 33 points on both 5th and 6th places, and since dillywilly, who was 5th, made it into the points, it wasn't happening. so i decided to go for the win.
if shaun didn't place, i think i would have needed about 7th to make states, so i would have folded

Re: What would YOU do??
Seeing as it was final table bubble, did you know what was happening on the other table? If someone was allin (and especially if you know them to go allin with a wide range of hands) you could have allowed yourself a reasonable amount of time to think about it and/or fold.
You had enough to also fold the SB (unless it was a gun hand obviously) and enjoy a free ride around the table (with the added possibility of seeing a gun hand) by which time someone might well have got knocked out and you would be on FT.
If you drew well you could also be enjoying more of a free ride (with more chance of getitng a gun hand) and being a final table people would probably be getting knocked out before you even had to play a hand. So essentially, you could do nothing and be as high up as maybe 5th with your chip stack being irrelevant.
I can *hear* Garth groaning after reading this... but my response is 'well you might well win that hand and be set (great stuff), or you could lose it and be out of the tourney with NO chances at getting a hand later on.'
If you're still in then you're still in. I prefer to have more chances at something because there's more things that can fall your way.
The perspective I would request you apply to this is that it's not a one off tourney that we play 10 times a season.. it's 10 times we play in a season for the best results overall (per venue).
If it was a one off tourney... hell yeah, I'd probly go for it too.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Re: What would YOU do??
exactly right pete, that was my dilemma.
and because i needed to basically win to have any state finals hope, i was going for that.
but i think i will fold them this season, i seemed to be on the losing end too many times to make it worth it.

Re: What would YOU do??
Luckily for me I have at least some form of evidence to back up that this works...
If they're still there, check my season 1, 2007 stats for the Blue Gums. I finished 2nd overall and played at least 2 games less than those around me in the top 5.
My entire strategy in that season (quite the newbie then..well..still am really) was to do EXACTLY what I described above.
I'm filthy at myself for not playing those other 2 games too! I fancied my chances at the bar fridge they were offering as a venue prize!

Nice post from you Pete. And I agree with you 100%, wow there's something for the books LOL.
Yes we do play in a ten tourney series and yes POINTS are the magical word. I can also understand Garths view as he is a gun player at the single tourney's and his view was correct in that situation.

Re: What would YOU do??
So what I am really hearing in this thread is that we need to reevaluate the points and make the points spread more top heavy.
AGREED.
Points structure will be re evaluated this season and there will be changes in season 4.
