4 to be exact, I have also played in 22 live casino based tournaments that were not turbo based tourneys.

Would you like me to post my stats?

I should also be mentioned that I have run several state finals and as an outside observer I can give plenty of good advice.

Thankyou so much for the advice.

I am sure I am not in the same boat of being panic stricken.
I set myself a goal, have met that goal and now find a full on panic starting to form.

I know it is stupid but.. then again I am nuts.. lol

I guess because I have played at The Seaford before I kinda know the layout, but come finals day that will be VERY different.

But thanks David, Bacon and Garth, I will definately take what you said on board, because it is definately more helpful than I think you realise.

I'm sure this isn't the best advice going around but I achieved my best final result by spending the night before at a bucks night, staying up far too late and getting about 3 hours sleep and consuming about 8 red bulls before/during the tournament.

I achieved my worst result by getting a fantastic nights sleep and getting up with plenty of time to spare and having a hearty breakfast.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Pete,
Only you could take the inverse of my advice and do the best with it.

Well the bad result wasn't intentional :)

To make you feel better, Season 1 2007 was my previous best result at the final and I did all the right things then.

JJ: State Finals is, as you have correctly assumed, a completely different boat to your regular NPL tourny.

I've only attended State Finals once (last season) and I had a great time. Yes, you're assigned a random table number but you're free to sit where you like on the table.

My advice: be patient. You are going to be playing poker for a long time, and with such a relaxed blind structure, you can afford to, like Garth said, sit back and evaluate who you're playing against without worrying about being blinded out. I had the pleasure of sitting next to Roger "DaMatch" (made final table past 2 NPL state finals). He didn't play a hand for the first hour or so, and was, compared to the rest of the table, shortstack (everyone had won a small pot by then). The table didn't know what to think (about his playing style). Then suddenly... he had a part of everyone's chips.

Don't change your style, as Dave said, that's what got you there in the first place. Just enjoy the day, its a great experience.

Expect to be slightly unsettled - might help you deal with it.

Everyone I've spoken to, and most certainly myself, has been, if not nervous, then a little unsettled. Hard to describe, 'cause you'll physc yourself up to be "completely in control", but it isn't going to happen that way. That’s not to say you'll be shot to pieces, but there is certainly a different feeling to it! I couldn't attend the 2nd finals I qual'ed for, so I can't tell you from personal experience if it gets easier, but the others I've spoken with all suggest that 2nd time around its easier - which doesn't help 1st time around, but forewarned is forearmed!

The above advice to know your plan is excellent advice, 'cause you will be a little shaky - knowing your plan well before hand will give you confidence to make the call, and be comfortable with it, even if it turns out to be wrong. You don't want any regrets!

and that is my $0.02
