888 (NOT 888PL) HU Tournaments...

Postby AJG » Sun Aug 16, 2009 2:45 am

I was glad to finally see HU tournaments offered in the 888 lobby, and registered for one.

I am posting here, to let all know that these tournaments are not run like a usual HU tournament.

Tables are instantly balanced as players are eliminated, NOT in the usual shootout format of a HU tournament.

I still managed to cash in it, but sometimes I would have an opponent at my table for less than 3 hands, and sometimes my new opponent would have me outstacked by 3:1....

This is NOT the correct way to run a HU tournament, and I just wanted to warn any of you who saw them and thought as I did "Great, I have been waiting for these!"
The format makes it very unfair as to how deep you can go, I assume they use their stated 'random' moving policy, which as I stated above, should not even be in place in a HU trn!

Be warned...

From this thread:

AceLosesKing wrote:I'm in a $5+50c HU tournament right now. 23 runners, top 3 cash. I won the first round, jumped to 3k (1500 start stack). I just got moved to a new table with an opponent with 4,275. Huh? Why aren't they restarting at round 2? And why does my opponent have a bigger stack?

Wtf just got moved again. Also, blinds continue to go up even if you're not playing an opponent.

Garth's reply:

Garth Kay wrote:Spoke to Gaz about this and he told me that there heads up tourneys don't play out as they should, which sucks.

888 acquired Pacific Poker not that long ago and there is only so much they can do with the software at a time. He has prioritised aspects of the software to be upgraded and fixed as new updates are released.

Unfortunately the HU tourneys isn't high on the priority list.

Explains a lot of 888's errors.

Thanks, that thread is getting rather chunky, and hard to find information on specific issues in.
Plus I thought this issue might warrant a thread to warn other's about it.

IMO until theu can run them properly, they shouldnt schedule them.

Funnily, every opponent I mentioned this to in the chatbox had no idea of what I was talking about... Or what a shootout format was...
