Hi all, this just occurred to me.
What would your answer be plus why.
Thinking of your current playing skill level. You have just won an all expenses trip to a large major poker tournament (Aussie Millions for this scenario). Knowing that the average numbers require multiple day 1's to be played. Which all will be played to the same blind level.
Which would be your preferred day.
Day 1, Less players over all, a few pro's in the mix, but a pretty average field in general.
Day 2, Slightly bigger than day 1, A lot more pro's are playing on this day as they get a day off before the recombine. A few more fishy players as well. Field is a lot more spread in terms of skill level, but overall the skill level is higher than day 1.
Day 3, Bigger than day 1 and day 2 by about 100 or so players (roughly 50% than day 1 or 2). Players that have gone deep in the other tournaments are playing this event, e.g. 100k event and 1600 rebuy event, The rest of the pro's are playing (40% of total pro entries), A lot of regulars to the casino, and also more fish. Skill level is Similar to day 2, but a lot tighter spread of skills. E.g Medium to Hard rather than Easy to Hard.
Which day would you choose if you had the choice whilst playing in this event?

Re: What Would You Do? Discussion Question.
lol i would be happy just to get that far!!!
i suppose it depends on what your goals for the tournament are. if it is just for the experience, then i would probably go for the day where the most pros are playing - nothing would be better than playing against one of the top notch players in the world.
but then again, there is always plenty of time for that when you run deep
i would prolly go for the easiest field. and since each field runs to the same blind level, field size shouldn't matter. so i would choose day 1, then have the next 2 days off to size up the rest of the field

I'd have to lean towards day 1.
Opens oneself up to being very bad playered but at the same time should have more chance of gaining chips and progressing.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Re: What Would You Do? Discussion Question.
Hi there Brett, I've only played a couple of S&G's and small tourneys at the Crown and nothing at Sky so I'm not familiar with the 3 day thingy.
So, if I did play on day one does that mean I play day two and three also if I still have chips or only day one??? If it's the latter then day one would be my choice too.
Obviously, like any tourney I would need to accumulate some easy chips to be able to progress to a higher level. And as I'm not a "great player" of the game I'd take day one (1) to give myself a chance by playing the weaker players.
Then again, I'd like to be on Aussie Joe's table and show him he folded to a really, really, bad beat and see if he says his favourite saying, "where's the respect kid, (insert you old fart) don't you know who I am"?
I'm sure there will come a day when I will play a major and I'm in the throws of setting up a reasonable kitty that is non effective to our daily usage.
Any suggestions regarding Sky City games from you guys will be appreciated as I'm not familiar with when to go or what they have going.

Just to classify when Brett refer to Day 1,2 and 3 what he really is talking about is Day 1a, 1b, 1c.
They operate the first day (Day 1) in three flights so the starting field is broken up over three days, very much like our State Finals in SA when we operate a flight system.

Thanks Garth makes sense now. Can I change it to 1b please??? That way I get a reasonable chance at making chips and maybe get to play with some recognised TV champs.

Re: What Would You Do? Discussion Question.
Day 1b
Main reason: Not much experience playing very large deepstack tourneys that span numerous days. Am aware of my potential for Mental Fatigue to set in. I am also aware of allowing my nerves to get the better of me so only a one day respite opposed to two, would suit me best. I want to go deeep into the tourney so day 1b would be the best. I would also go to the tennis on day 1c to give myself that further mental break.
In all honesty, I know the names of the poker pro's but don't know what alot of them outside of FT look like, so the poker pro situation wouldn't bother me, and seriously if a fish wants to swim at my table, feel free.
